

The Appreciation of BeautyThis canvas depicts a vast meadow, colored vibrant green of new spring growth, surmounted by a featureless, deep blue sky. Looking more closely at the meadow, you can see the multitude of green stalks that carpet the ground, from the straight shafts of grasses to many-leaved wildflowers. The only color that mars the carpet of greenery is the plump red squirrel sitting next to a small bush in the middle of the painting. His red fur is streaked with the sanguine red and vivid purple splotches of berry juices, and his cheeks are puffed out.
